A Magic man and Hong Kong racing’s pinup girl
They turned the season around
Joao Moreira had new records to break
And Kei Chiong didn’t let all her new fans down
Joao created more new magic tricks
He pulled off many Houdini acts
Kei made Girl Power spicy again
And mentoring her was Felix The Cat
Forget about that recent shocking ride
When all the magic seemed to disappear
Brain freeze sometimes affects us all
Joao Moreira just forgot to shift the right gears
There were the usual lethal Zac Attacks
And the boy’s learned to play a man’s game
He’s become Hong Kong racing’s roving ambassador
And the postman with the most reliable mail
Donkey was also dubbed the Iron Man
Though suspensions slowed him down
But Blazing Speed and the Putha Man
Always turned Neil Callan’s frown around
The Mauritian magician popped up here and there
Karis Teetan is a jockey who’s a gun
The women love his mighty cheekbones
He’s Mr Stunning all rolled into one
Chad Schofield was nicknamed Channah
He’s got Hannah so call him what you will
Not even suspensions slowed him down
Though swallowing them was a bitter pill
CHORUS
Dim sum, then some and a
great season for Danny Shum
Royal Ascot, Pan Sutong and Gold-Fun
And no prizes for guessing
Who’s had the most incredible run!
And no prizes for guessing
Who’s cruised away with
a most amazingly popular run!
The economy might have been going south
But turnover was never outta whack
It was another season to be jolly
There was no need for looking back
The Americans came for International Week
And found everything truly awesome
The Japanese flag flew with mighty pride
While Werther made his presence felt for John Moore and Hughie Bowman.
Silvestre de Sousa and Ryan Moore stayed a while
And The Magic Express slowed down a bit
But no matter how good they were
For Joao Moreira they were just a minor blip
That old Whyte magic hit a sudden slump
Stable support disappeared from view
Still 13 consecutive jockey premierships
Will never take away his rightful dues
Brett Prebble and Ollie Doleuze
showed us how much they love to win
Even when on some Class 5 slow boat
Right at the bottom of the bin
Opie Bosson quickly got off the mark
He’s too good to just hang around
And when it comes to strength in a finish
Nash Rawiller didn’t let his backers down
Matthew Chadwick got back to his winning ways
His win on Pakistan Star was something to behold
Derek Leung was the most improved jockey around
And the win of Tommy Berry on Chautauqua
had everyone going, “Good grief! Whoah!”
The Tony Cruz Award became a reality
The timing for it was just right
It made sense that Kei Chiong rode away with it
She beat the boys out for the prestigious prize.
New boys came and new boys went
And two Johns won them all
One proved Size really does matter
He really was the wizard from Oz
John Moore always had the big guns
Big guns to shoot the others down
And now he has Montaigne and Eagle Way
Two new Hong Kong Derby favourites
have already been found
Happy Wednesday became the talk of the town
It became Hong Kong’s new Disneyland
The Beer Garden and that Adrenaline rush
With Carnivale and the Jennifer Palor Band.
It was Uptown Funk and Digital Nights
With Samsung coming along for the ride
The newbies won with their own rules
“Don’t give us any tips!” they cried!
EB received a GBS this year
A Gold Bauhinia Award
It was something well and truly deserved
It was a Hong Kong government reward.
And so the curtain has fallen on another season
As we head off for a well-deserved break
In September it all starts up again
With the HKIR in December
being a very important date.
Love the title, LMFAO…Love Bobby too, the GOAT.
