So we come to another Happy Wednesday at the Happy Valley Racecourse, an early start- 6.45pm- and the finale for racing this season. No, no, the finale was NOT on Sunday as the Trainers title has still to be decided.

We need an entire race meeting for this? Will there be fireworks? Will Dennis Yip do a lap of honor with Tony Cruz?
Sorry, but the HKJC blew it on Sunday with their grammatically incorrect “The Champion Awards”.
Okay, let’s say this was a typo- but what about all the other typos? Yes, it’s a small thing, but they all add up.
Look at the footage some of us saw on Sunday of Jungle John Moore in his khaki safari suit shoveling food down his gob, plus boring presentations and with even more boring presenters no one cared about nor knew.

IF an awards show that truly matters and honors the best of the best, can there at least be a dress code?

That whole non-event is something we expect from the MJC- not the HKJC. Plus it was boring, intrusive television.
It made the entire event look like a cross between an ATV awards show and a Monty Python skit.
Crap like this is unbecoming of a global brand like the HKJC and those who put this turgid “show” together better wake up and realize that it’s 2013.

We are huge fans of the HKJC, but lazy crap like this awards show should not be tolerated and whoever Okayed this should go and ring Quasimodo’s bells and ask for mercy. Ding dong, the witch is dead.

As for the Season Finale on Wednesday, hopefully, there’ll be more than some fireworks, the naming of the leading trainer and another Shiga to give us the shiggers.

Does anyone at the HKJC think that those at the Beer Garden and Adrenaline give a toss about any of the above?
They will there to celebrate the last Happy Wednesday of this season, dance their asses off, cheer on their horses and have a damn good time.
The Finding Happy Wednesday trio should be there more than ever. But, there’s no budget for them. What rubbish. And the excellent Ben Semmens Band won’t even be performing at the Beer Garden.

We are talking about horses for courses and that ATV-type awards show on Sunday afternoon at Shatin with zero star appeal made the entire event one big dim sum- and then some- lunch appallingly filmed. Ed Wood could have done better.

Come on now, folks, try and at least make this Happy Wednesday night’s season finale something to remember and not just another reason why we don’t like Mondays- and now Wednesdays.
This was a GREAT season of racing. Let’s not have it end with a fizzle and not a sizzle where even many jockeys and trainers are wondering why they’re showing up and asking, Where’s The Beef?

Will we be there? Nah. Give us one reason why we should other than getting Zac Purton and Dougie Whyte up on stage and have them continue their war of words.
