CAPTAIN SPARROW

(Source: Comicvine)

News of all Ricky Yiu coming out of the races has thrown a Spaniard In The Works for the good Captain as the pigeons had cooed a few of his value place chances.

So with no Yiu, the pigeons have returned to coo the following as value chances to add to tierces and quinellas: ALL WIN BOY (Race 4,1), LOADS OF JOY (Race 5,1), WINNING BOY (Race 7,2) and PSYCHOLOGIST (Race 8, 10)

Another thing: The Captain is no fan of gourmets!

Entourage

It was a very strange day for results on the weekend and after a promising start, our young Entourage stumbled and fell at the third hurdle.

With Sarika, a racing specialist and model whose birthday is coming up this week insisting that she can beat Third Dividend in Oz when it comes to tipping the six up, here she unleashes her numbers. Go, baby!

THE FAST TRACKER FOR TODAY AT SHATIN

Though Thor was storming down on so many parades on early Tuesday morning as I tried to make sense of everything going on in Hong Kong these days- the city has gone nutso- my thoughts also turned to the races at Shatin this afternoon and which will take place when the annual Dragon Boat races will be paddling away.

(Source: E Land)

Today, an important day for one local trainer and jockey and their careers, can also be the turning point in the race for the jockeys and trainers premiership with Douglas Whyte back after a few meetings on the sidelines smoking cigars, following the smoke rings and watching The Zac Attack come up empty-handed on the weekend.

(Source: HKJC)

Well, who’s your daddy and warned all that none of his rides stood out and thought he’d be batting zero? Hell, chitlins, even Zac thought he would be firing blanks.

(Source: Free Ware Pocket PC)

So, that was no surprise, but ten-pound claimer Dickie “Louie” Lui winning the Jockey Challenge made many of us look like right Iggy Stooges.

Yes, it was a leader’s track and we wish how the track will ride BEFORE we place all those exotic bets.

It also makes tuning in to watch the Trio Los Amigos, no matter how entertaining they might be, perched aboard the Toys R Us version of The Love Boat, a waste of their time and effort when the gods rain on their tipping parades and leave viewers bewitched, be-bothered and bewildered.

(Source: Fun Cheap)

As for The Zac Attack today, he can’t make the weight on the promising Mr Gourmet and Why Not for Dennis Yip, both with winning chances and which sees Howard “The Duck” Cheng taking over.

(Source: Sharp Daily)

The Duckman has been riding with fresh legs recently and with renewed vigor, especially when 3-4 wide and storming down the outside.

The problem is that he also blows hot and cold and one can never be certain as to which Howard shows up on the day. It’s one more duck of a problem to figure out.

(Source: Drafthouse)

Meanwhile, looking at their book of rides, the Demoned Durban looks to have the far stronger book- Khaya, Dr. Good Habit and Flagship Shine looking the best on paper.

(Source: Apple Daily)

Yes, it’s a much stronger book than that of The Zac Attack, but apart from the last two horses mentioned- and I am not convinced about Flagship Shine tackling the dirt for the first time in a VERY trappy race 11- I can’t see him taking out the Jockey Challenge and don’t be swayed by the ridiculously short overnight odds of $1.60 based on quantity as opposed to quality.

Frankly, Dickie “Louie” Lui might be a good value bet as he has some good rides which won’t test his navigational skills. Just sit and keep them on a straight line, Dickie- even around the corners!

(Source: Drive.com.au)

Elsewhere, with Matthew Chadwick sidelined for what might be much longer than originally thought, Tony Cruz has turned to Keith Yeung, Terry CW Wong, Olivier Doleuze and Gerard Mosse today to bring home the bacon as he pursues another championship title.

(Source: Zimbio)

To me, none really look like winning chances with John Size, Dennis Yip and, perhaps, David Hall looking as if being amongst the winners.

(Source: Racing Write)

With the card also including a few of those lottery-type all-weather races, the weather being truly wretched and more showers forecast, I’ll look at horses drawn the inside which can scoot along early on in the day.

(Source: Fan Pop)

It could be one of those days when close finishes won’t be happening and instead, horses coming in Indian File and down the outside as the day progresses.

The odds are that by race 6, the going on the inside will get chopped up and jockeys caught on the rails might start looking as it they’re “doing an Iwata” by bobbing up and down in the one place.

(Source: Usebassy)

Oh, and do note that as a precautionary measure, ALL horses from the Ricky Yiu stable have been pulled out after a positive swab on four of the horses that ran at Shatin and Happy Valley last week. When it rains, it pours.

Selections From The Big Apple

(Source: The Watchnerd)

BEST BET

Race 8, No. 10 Psychologist

Trialed brilliantly and appears to be peaking for this. With considerable relief in the handicap (started season off a rating of 85), is worth another chance.

SECOND BEST

Race 9, No. 3 Winnie’s Horse

Has proven wet form and sure to appreciate the sting out of the ground. Will be advantaged by a slow tempo and can bounce back.

LONGSHOT

Race 11, No. 10 Slick Bullet

Steps back up to the 1650m on the All Weather but with the aid of another low draw and only a modest penalty for his last win, can repeat the dose at odds. Pedigree suggests he should see out the trip without trouble.
