LAUREN STOJAKOVIC AND A MIRACLES OF LIFE

LAUREN STOJAKOVIC AND A MIRACLE OF LIFE 1

Last week, we watched that magical horse named Black Caviar gift us with a moment that transcended horse racing. It was a Feel Good Moment that will last forever.

Today at Caulfield, we saw the aptly-named Miracles Of Life run away with the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes and ridden by a little-known 27-year-old apprentice jockey named Lauren Stojakovic.

No one in Australia could have ridden the horse any better. No one. Lauren Stojakovic took the bull by the horns and took the reins, shook them and with horse and jockey in perfect harmony and never ever going to be beaten.

Watching the emotions after the race of all those associated with this Miracles Of Life, one could not help shedding a tear while cheering them on.

Who came second and third? I never looked back. My eyes were on these two winners.

This young apprentice is an example of human resilience who has had some serious falls that have seen her sidelined for long spells.

But good things come to those who wait and Lauren Stojakovic has struck up an incredible relationship with this extraordinary two-year old filly from South Australia who, corny as it might sound might be small in stature but big in heart.

Then there’s the horse’s trainer Daniel Clarken, hardly a household name, and taking his place for this race alongside the various Group 1 winning trainers while facing the pressures of staying loyal to his jockey in this, the richest race in Australia for two year olds.

This was a script with an even better script than “Seabiscuit” when one thinks of the owner of the horse- Sri Lankan businessman Muzafar Yaseem, who owned the 1999 Blue Diamond Winner and champion sire Redoute’s Choice and whose racing interests are still managed by Iris O’Farrell, a former TAB agent, who became a friend of the owner when he used to make his small bets at her agency near the Melbourne Hilton.

The success of the low key Sri Lankan is another Miracle Of Life and how in racing anything and everything is possible if one truly believes and never gives up.

Today at Caulfield, we saw a real life fairy tale unfold. It was a great fillip for Australian racing and one which can be shared by the world.

This was and is a human interest story starring a two-year old filly who could and did come out a winner along with a team that worked as a family unit to make dreams come true.

  1. The richest race for two-year-olds in Australia – and in fact the world – is the Tooheys New Golden Slipper. Today’s Blue Diamond was first-class all the same.

  2. Raymond Alexander says:

A good piece, but the BLue Diamond is not the richest 2yo race, as he should know.
