At Shatin on Sunday, we saw Brett Prebble at his very best when winning on the David Hall-trained Berlinski. This was the Brett Prebble, Hong Kong punters have come to know and appreciate and made their Pinup Boy around two years ago.

A few races later, he teamed up with trainer Caspar Fownes on his regular ride- Lucky Nine- and took out the Chairman’s Sprint Prize as many predicted it would. What an incredible horse and a team that has gone to hell and back with this great galloper.

This season, it’s been a topsy turvy season for Prebble who has lost the support of quite a few stables recently which is not surprising when one has fellow Aussies like Zac Purton, Tye Angland and Tim Clark riding in such devastating style and winning over new owners and rides in the process.

Hell, even Douglas Whyte is finding it tough this season to throw his net further and get support from stables other than that of John Size as he tries to win his thirteenth successive Jockeys Premiership.

Now comes news that Prebble is lobbying very hard to get aboard Peter Moody’s two-year-old Thermal Current in Saturday’s Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield.
Though Moody has three other runners entered for the race, will the trainer actually replace his regular rider Luke Nolen on Thermal Current? Doubt it.

All I know is that the jockey ranks in Hong Kong have become more competitive than ever before and with the powerful Chinese racing media getting behind their favorites, and bagging those they don’t like which has a tremendous influence on who local owners want on their horses.
